Pre-Anzac Day

Reflecting on ANZAC Day: A Shared Legacy of Peace and Friendship

As ANZAC Day approaches, the Turkish Association of South Australia (TASA) prepares to join the community in honoring the courage and sacrifice of those who served. For the Turkish-Australian community, this day holds a profound dual significance—it is a time to remember the Gallipoli campaign not just as a historical conflict, but as the foundation of a lasting bond between our two nations.

Our Participation in 2026

TASA is proud to represent our community at several key services across Adelaide on Pre-Anzac and on Anzac Day:

  • April 24th – Flag Raising Ceremony: TASA will be present at the South Australian National War Memorial for the official flag-raising, marking the commencement of commemorations.
  • The Atatürk Tribute: We will be laying a wreath and reflecting on the famous words attributed to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, honoring the “Johnnies and Mehmets” who lie side by side in Turkish soil.
  • Community Vigils: TASA will have a few representatives at four different services around Adelaide

From Conflict to Kinship

The story of Gallipoli is unique in world history. What began as a fierce battle transformed into a narrative of mutual respect. Today, we stand alongside our fellow Australians to ensure that the lessons of the past continue to foster peace and understanding for future generations.

We invite all TASA members and the broader community to join us at the Cross of Sacrifice and other local memorials as we lay wreaths and observe the minutes of silence together.
