National Sovereignty and Children’s Day

Celebrating Our Future: A Community Picnic at Thorndon Park

The Turkish Association of South Australia cordially invites you and your family to a special combined celebration of two of our most significant national milestones: National Sovereignty and Children’s Day and the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.

On Sunday, 17 May 2026, we will gather at the beautiful Thorndon Park to honor the legacy of our history and the bright future of our youth. These days have been celebrated for over a century in our motherland, and it is our privilege to keep these traditions thriving for the next generation of Turkish Australians.

Why We Are Gathering

This picnic is dedicated to our children and youth. Our goal is to create a space where the younger members of our community can connect, unite, and form lifelong friendships. By coming together, we ensure that while they grow up far from Turkey, they remain deeply rooted in our shared culture and values.

What to Bring

To make this a true community feast, please bring a plate to share with others. We also recommend bringing:

  • Drinks
  • Picnic blankets and folding chairs.
  • Easily transportable sports equipment (balls, bats, or frisbees) for games.
  • We plan to bring a BBQ and have meat and fish for all.

Fun for the Kids

We haven’t forgotten the little ones! There will be a “bag of goodies” for the children to enjoy as we spend the afternoon playing and celebrating. Whether you are a child or just a “big kid” at heart, we encourage everyone to join in the sports and games.

Let’s come together under the Pavillion of Thorndon Park to celebrate our children, empower our youth, and honor the memory of Atatürk.

We look forward to seeing you all there!
